私は、The Economist が最高の英語教科書と思っていますが、教材として欠点がないわけでは、ありません。

1. 人名・地名などの固有名詞が頻発する。
2. イギリス英語なので、アメリカ英語から見ると違和感を感じることがある。
3. 内容のレベルが専門家が読むのに耐えるほど高いので、知的探求心が低い人向きではない。
4. 値段が高い。1冊1200円。毎週1200円は、ちょっと手が出ない。

そういう欠点を補って余りあるのが、分かりやすく格調の高い英語です。

しかし、The Economistは読むのがキツイのも事実でしょうから、学習に使うのであれば、日本の中高レベルの単語だけから成るセンテンスを見つけ出す練習をするのが良いでしょう。
そして、自分は世界のトップレベルの専門家と同じものを読んでいる！という感慨に浸るのも良いかと思います。

しかし、どこでも急成長だ
